Founded in June 1974, Allama Iqbal Open University became the first institution
of distance learning in the region.
The
University provides opportunity to those who wish to acquire formal education
or upgrade skills while staying in their homes. The use of appropriate
media mix and latest electronic communication techniques allow an expert
to reach out to student scattered all over country. Student is taught
with the help of printed course books, media programmes and tutorials.
He has to do assignments and pass final examination. During 1998-99 the
University enrollment reached 9,07,834.
