The present military government is credited to hold the first ever convention on human rights awareness and education. The convention resolved to develop a mass awareness program which was launched on April 21 and would continue till December 31, 2000. The Convention intended to amend Curriculum and reorient teachers training with the aim to cover the teaching of human rights and human dignity at appropriate levels of education system.
